Climate Project Development & Funding Proposals for African NGOs
Description
Course Overview
Climate Project Development & Funding Proposals for African NGOs is the professional project-development course in the Climate Finance & Green Funding Professional Series. It takes learners from a promising climate idea to a structured, evidence-based and reviewer-ready project concept.
The course is deliberately more rigorous than a conventional proposal-writing class. Learners work through climate diagnosis, baselines, scenarios, theory of change, adaptation and mitigation design, feasibility, alternatives analysis, proposal architecture, budgeting, financing, safeguards, gender, stakeholder engagement, partnerships, implementation and quality assurance.
Signature learning model
- Diagnose: establish the climate problem and evidence.
- Design: construct a coherent intervention and results architecture.
- Finance: translate the design into a credible budget and financing plan.
- Safeguard: integrate environmental, social, gender and stakeholder requirements.
- Deliver: demonstrate implementation capacity, partnerships and risk management.
- Stress-test: subject the proposal to a reviewer-style red-team and repair weaknesses.
Professional capstone
Learners produce a Climate Project Concept Package: climate rationale, problem/evidence analysis, project architecture, theory of change, results framework, indicators, adaptation or mitigation design, budget, financing plan, safeguards and gender approach, stakeholder plan, partnership architecture, implementation model, risk register and proposal QA checklist.
Relationship to existing Academy courses
This course intentionally applies—not duplicates—the Academy's existing Grant Writing, Results-Based Program Design, Project Management and financial-management capabilities. The distinctive focus is the climate-finance investment case and the technical disciplines expected in climate project preparation.
Current-practice note
Fund templates and requirements change. For example, current GCF Project Preparation Facility guidance requires a concept note and supporting preparation documentation, while the Adaptation Fund provides distinct concept and fully-developed proposal materials and requires attention to stakeholder, environmental/social and gender considerations. Learners must verify the current official requirements before submission.
